"Two People with Zero Synergy: Coffee Making Fail" is the name TikTok tutorial accounts gave to a short AI video in which two people try to make one cup of coffee together and get every step wrong. One spoons coffee onto the counter next to the mug, the other pours water into a mug with nothing in it and the milk lands on the bare counter a second after the mug is picked up. The clip took off at the end of October 2026, and the zero synergy name showed up in CapCut captions on November 1.
What is the two people with zero synergy coffee making fail?
It is an AI generated comedy clip, not a real recording. The scene is always the same: a home kitchen with wooden cabinets, a light speckled stone counter, a red mug in the middle, a glass jar of instant coffee and a steel kettle. Two people stand behind the counter, one a little in front of the other, and calmly ruin a cup of coffee.
What happens in the 15 seconds
- The person in front scoops coffee from the jar while the person behind lifts the kettle.
- Water goes into the empty mug. The coffee goes onto the counter right beside it.
- They repeat it. The pile of coffee on the counter grows and the mug stays clean.
- The person in front finally picks up the mug.
- At that exact moment the person behind pours the milk onto the spot where the mug was.
- The milk spreads into a white puddle and both of them look down at it.
Nobody speaks, nobody laughs and the camera never cuts. That is why it works.
Why people call it "zero synergy"
Synergy is office slang for two people who work better together than apart. Zero synergy is the opposite: two people who are each doing their job carefully and still produce nothing. Gamers use the same phrase for a team whose skills do not combine. The coffee clip is the perfect picture of it, because neither person is clumsy on their own. They are just never in sync with each other.
Where did the zero synergy coffee clip come from?
The earliest version we found
The oldest copy we found was posted on October 28, 2026, at 15:58 UTC by the TikTok account VibeMotion, under the title "When Two Legends Try to Make Coffee." It is tagged as AI generated and shows two men in the same kitchen with the same red mug. By November 1 the TikTok post had about 507,700 views and 27,600 likes.
When the zero synergy name showed up
CapCut turned the clip into photo templates on October 29, and the trend spread fast through the Pioneer template program. On November 1, a wave of tutorial posts started using the exact phrase "Two People with Zero Synergy: Coffee Making Fail" AI effect, most of them with football captions such as "Mbappé x Lamine Yamal." Before that, the same accounts were calling it the "When Two Legends Try to Make Coffee" AI effect.
Is this the same as the duo coffee trend?
Yes. Zero synergy coffee, two legends making coffee, the out of sync coffee meme and the duo coffee trend are all the same kitchen scene with different captions. If you want the full story of the Brazilian names attached to it and the two CapCut templates, read our duo coffee trend meme guide.

Not a coffee maker problem
Search "coffee making fail" on its own and you mostly get broken coffee machines and robot baristas. This trend has nothing to do with either. It is about two people and one mug.
Which pairs work best in a zero synergy video?
The joke gets better when the two people are supposed to be good at working together. A few versions we saw again and again on TikTok:
Rivals and teammates
Football is the most common one in tutorial captions. They pair players from rival clubs or the same national team, so the clip reads as a comment on how well they really get along.
Coworkers
A popular version puts two lawyers from the TV show Suits behind the counter in sharp suits. Two people who argue at work ruining a cup of coffee in silence is an easy laugh.
Couples, roommates and siblings
This is the version most people make for themselves. Put in you and your partner and it becomes a joke about who actually makes the coffee at home. Roommates, siblings and best friends work just as well.
How do you make a two people coffee making fail AI video?
CapCut templates are the usual route on TikTok. If you want each person to keep their own face, hair and clothes, start from two separate photos instead. The coffee making fail AI video maker on EAST.IM works like this:
Pick two photos
Use one photo of each person. A sharp, evenly lit photo facing the camera works best, with no sunglasses, mask or hand over the face. A waist up or full body photo also shows the AI your clothes.
Put each person in the right spot
Photo 1 becomes the person on the left at the back, who pours the hot water and later the milk. Photo 2 becomes the person on the right in front, who scoops the coffee and grabs the mug at the worst possible moment. Want to switch roles? Switch the photos.
Create and download
Pick a quality, tick the consent box and press Create video. You get a 15 second vertical MP4 with the original sound, ready to post on TikTok, Reels or Shorts.

In our test with two of our own characters, both kept their faces, hair and outfits from the first frame to the last. The coffee jar came out plain with no brand on it, and the milk puddle landed right where it does in the original.
What photos give the best result?
Photos that work
- One person per photo, from the chest up or full body
- Face clearly visible and evenly lit
- The clothes you want to wear in the video
Photos to avoid
- Group photos with both of you in one picture
- Sunglasses, masks, hats pulled low or a hand over the face
- Dark, blurry or heavily filtered selfies
If a photo is only a face close-up, the AI adds a plain white T-shirt for photo 1 and a plain navy T-shirt for photo 2, so the two of you are easy to tell apart.
Can you make it with celebrities or football players?
Not on EAST.IM. Only use your own photo and a photo of someone who agreed to be in the video. Do not upload strangers, children or public figures, and that includes football players and actors.
Why the celebrity versions look the way they do
The famous versions on TikTok come from ready made CapCut templates with the faces already baked in. When you make your own, the video model can turn down photos that look like a real public figure, so a celebrity upload is likely to fail. If a video fails, the credits go back automatically.
What should you write when you post it?
Short captions that fit the clip
- Two people with zero synergy making one coffee
- We have been married for six years and this is still how mornings go
- Roommates trying to share a kitchen
- Our group project in one cup of coffee
- Zero synergy, full confidence
Hashtags people use
The posts we checked use #coffeefail, #coffeefailtrend, #zerocoordinationcoffeefail, #twopersoncoffeefail and #ZeroSyncCoffeeChallenge. Turn on TikTok's AI generated label when you post, since the video is made by AI.
How much does it cost and how long does it take?
On EAST.IM each video costs 800 credits at 480p, 3,500 credits at 720p or 8,000 credits at 1080p. It is usually ready in 10 to 20 minutes and stays in My Videos for 48 hours.
Is there a free version?
CapCut templates are the closest thing to free, because the app does the work inside a fixed template. Tools that build a new video from your own photos charge per video because every clip takes real computing time. EAST.IM is not linked to TikTok, CapCut, VibeMotion or anyone shown in the versions above.
