A zombie couple video is a short AI film about two people in love after one of them has turned into a zombie. The one who is still human raises a gun, starts crying and cannot pull the trigger. The gun comes down, the two of them hug and the film cuts to warm memories of the couple from before. Since late September 2026 people have been putting their own faces into this story and posting it on TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.
What the zombie couple trend is
Almost every version follows the same four beats:
- The standoff. In a dark, abandoned house, one partner points a gun at the other, who has already turned.
- The choice. Tears run down their face, their hand shakes and the gun slowly goes down.
- The hug. The zombie walks closer and the two hold each other.
- The memory. A hard cut to the couple in a golden field on a summer evening, happy and unchanged.
Aura AI, one of the sites that recreates the clip, says the full film runs 24 seconds across 16 shots. It is framed wide like a movie scene, so many people assume it was cut from a real film. We could not find any film it came from.
The name changes depending on who is talking. "Zombie couple" describes the two people in it, "zombie hug" and "last hug" describe the moment everyone remembers and "zombie love story" describes the whole thing. They all point to the same clip.
Where it came from and when it took off
The earliest post we could find is a 30-second TikTok uploaded on September 27, 2026 by a German account. Its caption is just five hashtags: #love #zombie #dead #ai #ki. KI is the German abbreviation for AI, and TikTok labels the post as AI-generated. The audio is called "Originalton," which is German for "original sound." By October 14 more than 1,700 videos were using it.
We could not confirm who made the film or whether that post is the first version. One trend site describes the September 27 upload as a remake, so an earlier copy may exist somewhere.
After that the trend moved fast:
- September 29: the blog of Umnik AI, a Russian AI app, wrote that the zombie trend had become one of the videos couples forwarded most within a couple of weeks.
- October 1: YouTube editors in India posted step-by-step recreation tutorials. One of them passed 45,000 views.
- October 5: a US TikTok version captioned "I'd love you, zombie and all, always." went up and drew about 860,000 views.
Google search data matches this timeline. Searches for zombie couple, zombie love story, zombie hug and jadi zombie were close to zero on a three-month chart until September 30, then all started climbing on the same day. Worldwide interest in "zombie AI video" peaked on October 4 and has been dropping since, so the biggest wave has already passed.
What people call it around the world
The trend crossed languages within days. Here is how it shows up in captions and searches:
- English: zombie love story, zombie hug, last hug zombie, zombie AI trend, zombie husband and wife. In the US, Google Trends shows "zombie couple" searched more often than "zombie love story" over the past month.
- Indonesian and Malay: jadi zombie ("become a zombie"), video AI zombie pelukan ("AI zombie hug video") and trend video AI nembak zombie, where nembak means to shoot.
- Spanish: pareja zombie and Mi zombie amado ("my beloved zombie").
- Russian: зомби тренд, which simply means "zombie trend."
Two spinoffs are worth knowing about. One trend site says a pet version, where a dog or cat is the one who turns, took over Russian and Spanish speaking TikTok. Another short on YouTube takes a different turn: in JellyFilmworks' "Fine, we'll be zombies together," both partners end up undead.
How people make a zombie couple AI video
Nobody films these. Most versions come from one of three routes.
- Google Flow, ChatGPT and CapCut. This is the method in most of the Indian YouTube tutorials. You ask ChatGPT for a prompt for each scene, generate the shots one by one in Google Flow, then cut them together in CapCut. The creators often share their prompts as a Google Doc link in the video description. You get the most control this way, but it also takes the most time, since every shot has to show the same two people.
- Dreamina and CapCut templates. Dreamina, the AI video tool from the CapCut team, has a page titled "AI Zombie Couple Video: Hug Prompts & Tutorial" with sample prompts and an image upload. The page itself says its prompts do not promise an exact remake of the trend video. Many TikTok tutorials are tagged #dreamina and #capcutpioneer. CapCut templates come and go quickly, and one template we checked had already been taken down.
- Two-photo apps. Several sites now take one photo of each person and rebuild the clip for you. They vary in length, sound, aspect ratio and how closely they follow the original shots, so watch a sample before you pay.
Our AI zombie hug video maker is the third kind, built to keep the original story shot for shot.
Make your own zombie love story from two photos
Here is what our tool does:
- Two roles. Photo 1 is the person holding the gun. Photo 2 is the person who turns. The template shows a man holding the gun and a woman who turns, so photos that match those roles in gender and build look the most natural.
- A zombie version of photo 2. The AI first makes a zombie portrait of the person in photo 2, with cloudy white eyes, pale grey skin and tangled hair. That portrait appears in the house scenes, while the original photo is used for the summer memories, so the person still looks like themselves in both halves.
- The full clip. Every shot of the 24-second story stays, including the dark house, the shaking gun, the tears and the golden field at sunset. Only the two people change. You get a widescreen MP4 with sound in 480p or 720p.
- Timing. Most videos are ready in about 10 minutes. The finished clip waits in My Videos for 48 hours.
For the best result, use one person per photo, facing the camera with both eyes visible and in even light. A sharp waist-up or full-body shot lets the AI keep your clothes.
A zombie couple video for Halloween
In October a lot of people who type "zombie couple" into Google are planning a costume. The top related searches are zombie couple costume, Halloween couple costumes and zombie bride and groom costume.
If you and your partner are going as a zombie couple this year, a short last hug video makes a fun teaser before the party or something to post next to your costume photos. The AI handles the zombie look on photo 2, so nobody needs makeup for the clip. Keep in mind that in this story only one of you turns. The other stays human and holds the gun. Our tool does not make the version where you both become zombies.
Only use faces that said yes
Use your own photo and photos of people who agreed to be in the video. Do not upload strangers, children or public figures.
To make the clip, the photos are sent to third-party AI video services, which may keep copies. We delete our own copies 48 hours after the order finishes. When you post your video, turn on the AI-generated label. TikTok, Instagram and YouTube all have one.
Not to be confused with
A search for "zombie couple" also brings up Rob Zombie and his wife Sheri Moon Zombie, couples dancing to songs from Disney's ZOMBIES movies and a short drama called My Zombie Sweetheart that spiked in searches at the same time. None of them are connected to this trend.
FAQ
What is a zombie couple video?
It is a short AI video where one partner has turned into a zombie and the other cannot bring themselves to shoot. They hug instead, and the clip cuts to happy memories of the two of them.

Yes. Zombie couple, zombie hug, last hug and zombie love story are all names for the same clip. "Couple" describes the people and "hug" describes the moment.
What does jadi zombie mean?
Jadi zombie means "become a zombie" in Indonesian and Malay. It is how many people in Indonesia and Malaysia search for this trend.
What sound do zombie couple videos use?
The first wave used "Originalton," the audio from the September 27 TikTok post. We could not confirm who made the music.
Can I make a zombie couple AI video with my own photos?
Yes. Upload one photo for the person holding the gun and one for the person who turns to our zombie couple video tool, choose 480p or 720p and press generate. Most videos are ready in about 10 minutes.
Is it free?
Not on our site. Each video runs through several image and video models, so it needs a paid plan. A 480p video costs 2900 credits and a 720p video costs 5900 credits, and failed generations are refunded automatically.
